Last Weekend Shenanigans...with Police encounter.

I had a lovely weekend catching up with friends! Not much to report there to be honest.

The funniest thing of the weekend was Zach and my encounter with the police. We had done an ever so slightly illegal left turn (in Taiwan at most lights, unless specifically marked out, a scooter cannot do a left turn) so the police waved us down. They were clearly in a place most suitable for this job and were probably on 'spotting left hand turn' duty that day. As soon as they stopped us one was trying to wave us on, knowing that neither of them could speak English.

The other police officer was attempting to communicate. He was either asking for our ARC's or license. All he kept saying was 'pass' with the question marker after (ma). I feel quite guilty about not attempting to talk to him in Chinese, but it was drummed into us in training, if you are ever stopped by the police NEVER speak Chinese. Mainly because they'll just let you go because you're a foreigner. We were also told horror stories of people signing things in Chinese and then getting deported because they apparently signed something stating they were illegal or had done something illegal. So I was definitely not going to get myself tangled up in some kind of mess.

And so it was true. After five or so minutes of me playing dumb and the policeman asking for our ID they let us go.
